Happy New Year!

Happy new year everyone! I've been so busy shopping, working and getting fat that I've been terribly lazy about posting things. Here are some pretty glittery images for you to gawk at. Put on something sparkly and enjoy your last night of 2011! See you in 2012 :)
Don't drink and drive! I'm serious!

Dress over pants, sweater over dress

I'm back!

So I've been MIA for the last couple days, I wish I could say I randomly went to europe again, but I was here the whole time. This time, my boyfriend and my sister visited me. So I've been busy stuffing my face, doing fun things and spending lots of money... oh so much money.
Here is what I wore today. Remember the sweater over dress thing, well I decided to take that further. Inspired by the Man Repeller, I decided to wear pants under the dress instead of tights for optimal warmth in the chilly weather.

Leather leggings

Whenever I see leather pants I immediately think about that episode of Friends where Ross wears leather pants to a date and ends up in the bathroom covered in lotion and baby powder. You would think that would discourage me from going anywhere near leather pants but no. They're a great way to stay warm in the winter so I'll take the risk.

Piggy wiggies and Hollandaise

I got these super cute kitchen utensils from a gift exchange at a Christmas party. I decided this was the perfect excuse to spend an entire morning making eggs benedict.
look how cute they are!

One of the things I got was a silicone egg poacher. I have NO idea how to use these, I had to youtube it, and I still got unevenly cooked eggs that wouldn't come out of the container. So then I just poached them myself. To poach eggs in a pot, once the water is simmering, stir the water in a circular motion, then drop the egg into the middle of the pot. This will keep the egg from going everywhere. You can also add some vinegar to the water.

For the left over hollandaise sauce, I roasted artichokes in the oven and used the hollandaise as a dip.
To roast artichokes

Cut off the top inch of the artichoke
Insert 2 cloves of garlic into the middle of the artichoke
Pour the juice of half a lemon over the artichoke
Drizzle with Olive Oil
Sprinkle with sea salt and freshly ground pepper
Cover with aluminum foil and bake in the oven at 350 degrees farenheit for minimum 1 hr
Serve with your hollandaise, and enjoy.

Fur trim and a really tiny door

Look! I'm a giant. Jk, it's just a really tiny door.

fee fi fo fum

I stole this fur trim from my mom a couple years ago. I love it when I find cool things my mom used to wear, but most of the time it's pretty bad ie. powder blue white polka dot leggings, really mom? really?

Jamie Oliver's shepherd's pie

My lovely sister bought me this cookbook while she was in London. Almost makes me not hate her for going to cool places while I freeze in Montreal. (Seriously, it just keeps getting colder). Jamie's Shepherd's pie recipe was the first one I tried and I loved it. He adds lemon zest to the mince and it gives a lovely, light fragrant flavor to something that's normally very... beefy. I also cooked with veal for the first time and quite enjoyed the results.

Miu Miu glitter nails

These glitter booties have been all over the runways and seen on various stylish celebs lately. Personally, I'm not a huge fan, (not that that matters since I couldn't afford them even if I sold my kidney), but they did inspire me for this new nail design.

Oversized leopard print coat

As soon as I saw this coat I just had to have it, despite the fact that I had already purchased a new coat this year, it was way too expensive, and it makes me look like a little person... which I am. The shoes I'm wearing were a complete impulse ebay purchase made before I fell asleep at 2 am. I woke up pleased to know that it wasn't a dream. If it wasn't obvious before, I have an uncontrollable shopping habit.

Salad Rolls

I hate raw vegetables, which is why I never eat them. They just don't look appetizing. Even the word "crudités" is unappetizing. But sometimes (like after a day of eating way too much fried chicken) my narrowing arteries beg for something fresh. My favorite (and only) way of eating raw vegetables is to make salad rolls.
You will need
For the rolls
- Red peppers
- Cilantro
- Mushrooms
- Cucumber
- Tomatoes
- Onions
(or whatever you like)
- Pork chops
- Shrimp
- Rice paper
- Rice noodles
1. Cut your vegetables lengthwise
2. Cook the Rice noodles and rinse with cold water
3. Grill the pork chops and cut into long slices
4. Grill the shrimp

Then for the sauce you will need
- juice from 1/2 lime
- 3 tbsp fish sauce
- 1 tsp chopped jalapeno peppers
- 1/4 cup water
Add it all together in a little bowl and make it to taste
Serve the vegetables, and sauce with a hot bowl of water and rice paper
Dip the rice paper in the hot water to cook (takes only a few seconds) then lay it flat on your plate
Add your vegetables, pork, shrimp and noodles
Then roll. I like to fold the bottom edge over the toppings, roll once, fold the sides in, then roll again.
But as you can see, mine don't look that great, so don't listen to me. Once you have something that at least resembles a salad roll, dip it in the sauce and enjoy!
